That never happened, but he did get to continue to play baseball for a few more weeks when he was selected to be on the All-Star team. I knew that he was good enough to make the team, but I wasn't sure how it was all going to work out because a lot the boys selected to try out were coaches sons. We prepared him for the worst but were able to celebrate the best.
Even though he wasn't given a chance to play as much as he wanted (or hardly at all), he had the best attitude about it. He cheered for his teammates and then gave it his all when he was finally put in. His team ended up winning the consolation championship, and his coaches (funded partly by Grandma Brent) treated his whole team to Pizza Hut. The All-Star team also rode on a float in the Cowley's Day parade which we unfortunately had to miss because we were out of town for Emilee's All-Star volleyball game in Casper.
Even with the extended season, he was still sad for baseball to be over. For never really playing the game until this year. He stepped right in and acted like he had been at it for years. He was an excellent pitcher and closed out several games. He also played catcher and short stop and had an arm that could throw it in from clear out in the outfield. While I don't miss the running around to practices every night, I miss watching him play and succeed. It was a fun way to spend our summer evenings.
